In a letter to the editor ("Teachers union has ideas to make schools safer," Columbus Dispatch, Nov. 10. 2007), Ohio Federation of Teachers president, Sue Taylor recommends ways to make schools safe in light of the recent Dispatch investigations.
Taylor states that Ohio needs to "(e)stablish schools as safe havens for students when it comes to violence. We should ensure they are places where inappropriate behavior and comments of a sexual nature -- whether student to student or adult to student -- are strongly discouraged."
I assume that she is exempting the reading and discussing of truly perverse novels. Isn't her stance just a little hypocritical?
