Olentangy's Wade Lucas, ASCD, and the Whole Child

Good ol' Wade wants to fight for the whole child (when he's not fighting for cold, hard cash), and so does the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (the Fourth International of government education).

According to ASCD's Whole Child
website:

We Stand for Whole Child Education

In a time of rapid change and innovation, our education system is struggling to keep pace. The global marketplace is a reality; yet, as demands for a highly skilled and educated workforce and citizenry grow, too many communities have narrowed the curriculum, eliminated or reduced support for families, and failed to develop the talent of their youth.

We can do better.

Please support policies and practices that ensure

  1. Each student enters school healthy and learns about and practices a healthy lifestyle.
  2. Each student learns in an intellectually challenging environment that is physically and emotionally safe for students and adults.
  3. Each student is actively engaged in learning and is connected to the school and broader community.
  4. Each student has access to personalized learning and is supported by qualified, caring adults.
  5. Each graduate is challenged by a well-balanced curriculum and is prepared for success in college or further study and for employment in a global environment.
Funny, it doesn't mention an outrageous salary for the superintendent. Wade must have snuck that past the board as can-do number six.

Note: Of course, the list of can-does eliminates public education as a means to provide for the whole child, whatever the whole child nonsense really means.

"Snuck that past the board.."

How hard is that too do? If they aren't looking, you can't call it sneaking.

Yes, do see to it that all the little brainwashed children Practice a healthy lifestyle. If they don't, THEY'LL KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR THEM.
AND BIG BROTHER WILL MAKE SURE ALL THEIR ATTITUDES, BELIEFS AND BEHAVIORS ALIGN WITH THE STATE'S GOALS. OR ELSE. Now, taxpayers, don't you want to reach in those greens, and pull out those greens, and help us bureaucrats get the job done?

You have it wrong: Wade Lucas is interested in Whole SUPERINTENDENT principles:

- Every superintendent shall be paid no less than $225,000 per year

- Every superintendent shall have a board that will give him anything and everything s/he ever asks for

- Every superintendent shall have a "cabinet" of overpaid, under-producing underlings
