District administrators, sleep well

We pay Andy Kerr, operations and facilities director, and other district administrators (including administrators in the transportation department) thousands to be "weather watchers." Hey, can I just keep my taxes and I'll call in the two-hour delays.

Olentangy Local Schools will maintain its pre-scheduled two-hour professional development delay for Thursday, January 29. However, a.m. preschool is cancelled and all non-public transportation services will operate on a two-hour weather delay.

During this two-hour delay, the school district will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions. Should the district choose to cancel classes, the district will again notify local television and radio stations and an updated message will be posted on the district's Web site at www.olentangy.k12.oh.us/cancellation.html and broadcast on the district's listserves.

FAQs and additional information on Olentangy's cancellation and delay policy are available at www.olentangy.k12.oh.us/district/faqs/delay.html.

Let's see Andy + 2 in transportation...Mark Raif...Carol the transportation director and others unnamed.

Yep, 3 employees who make over $100K each, get a stipend to get up early for work!

Not to exceed 15k annually. Oh by the way, they have been doing this since October without Board approval!

YOU ARE KIDDING ME, RIGHT???????

WE PAY THESE PEOPLE EXTRA TO WATCH THE WEATHER?????????

INCLUDING THE TRANSPORTATION DIRECTOR, WHO I WOULD THINK IS HER JOB TO BEGIN WITH, IMBEDDED IN HER SALARY??????????????

WHO'S HEAD ARE WE GOING TO PUT ON A STAKE FOR THIS??????????????

(SORRY FOR SHOUTING, BUT I'M PRETTY UPSET ABOUT THIS...THE PRINCIPLE OF IT IS OUTRAGEOUS)

Anon 7:30 -

Spread the word. Show up at a board meeting. Speak out. Send emails. Write letters to the Editor.

The only way we can create change and hope is through a grass roots effort. November isn't too far away and two incumbents who ran unapposed four years ago will be on the ballot. There is a reason they wanted the President and Vice President positions this year. Make no mistake, IT WASN'T FOR THE KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where were our weather watchers this morning? An OLSD school bus was rearended and another car was in the ditch just a half mile down the road because of the icy roads. The entire area around Liberty High School was a solid patch of ice. It was dangerous to have our busses on the roads. There should have been a two hour delay to allow the traffic to subside and to allow the salt trucks to work the roads.

Can we get 1/(insert number of days of school here)th of our Weather Watcher Stipend Money back for lack of service / failure to perform or will this be another case of no accountability?
