Hey Folks,
School board president Scott Galloway just got a significant raise ... from our wallets.
That's right, the board voted to hire Galloway's wife for a district position.
I know, I know ... His wife was the most qualified for the job and Scott's position meant nothing to an interim superintendent looking for the big contract. It's all just dumb luck.
Oh, and it's all for the kids. Right, Scott? ... nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more, say no more .

If my spouse wasn't gainfully employed, I would suggest that they go work for the district as well!

I think she got a secretarial job. All employees get the benefits package. Not a Davisian one, but the standard public employee one nonetheless.
It would be nice if you checked your facts before you commented on some of these things. Amy Galloway was approved as a SUBSTITUTE secretary/aide. Substitutes do NOT receive benefits nor do they benefit from STRS. Substitutes are hard to come by, and those of us who have children in the public schools should be appreciative that she is willing to do the job.
Can I get a shout out for "CONFLICT OF INTEREST?"
So now we have Feasel's husband and Galloway's wife employed by the district, eh?
Dimon and his wife don't need the money so we don't have to worry about Mrs. McPherson gaining employment with the distric.
Smith would never stoop so low as to take advantage of the district through her position on the board.
That leaves Meider. I've got a UDF ice cream cone on it that Meider's partner lands a cushy gig within 90 days.
(Note: I'd gamble more, but in 90 days, I have to start paying for an operating levy that wasn't needed. Time to batton down the cash hatches!!!)

EXACTLY! NO board member's spouse should work for the district. The appearance of inappropriate behaviour alone should be enough to stop it.
Employee contracts come before the board for approval. Do you really think that the board will vote NO on a contract for employment of another board members spouse? Really? Do you? Come on! It'll never happen. Especially now that two of the five members have contracts with the district. They are "all in" now and can't turn back.
Isn't there a law or board policy against this? If not, their needs to be. This is crazy!
For once, the arrogant and ignorant socialist agrees with you that Scott Galloway's wife should not have accepted an employment contract, even though it was for a substitute teacher position.
Jimmy, you should really check your facts a little closer before you through the old mud. Commenting about the nature of her poistion and getting the benefit thing all screwed up is just plain sloppy.
It's nothing new. In my school district we have people on the board whose spouses are employed as teachers at the school and who are teachers at other schools. We've had people who are retired teachers from that school and in addition are parents of teachers. During one era we had a board member who was a retired teacher from the district whose daughter was a teacher, a man whose wife was a teacher/administrator in another district, and the treasurer was the cousin of the first guy. As a side note, also in that era, a woman was elected who was indicted along with her husband for embezzlement, he plead guilty if she could stay out of jail, and she went on to sit on the board, pregnant with another man's child.

I keep returning because I think your perspective and that of the others is interesting. That doesn't mean I agree with everything you put forth. However, I think part of being informed is listening to different perspectives.
My wit might be dull, but I do think that criticism is most effective when it's based on all of the facts. There's plenty to be legitimately ctitical of out there based just on the facts. This woman should not have taken a position...period. However, the nature of her position and the benefits associated with it don't need to be exaggerated to further your point.

Don't forget OLSD have a "retired former board president" that approved a new six figure position then ended up filling that position after "retiring" from the board.

Straight conflict of interest for Galloway...at least Mr. Feasel was employed at the district prior to Mrs. being appointed to the board. Not his fault she got appointed.
Hey--you leave Mr. Julie Wagner out of this. He does it for the kids, too...I'm talking about the two supplementals he has...or is it three--no--four....five?....
So, let me get this right: Mrs. Galloway is the PTA president of the school she was hired to work at.
As with all those PTA biddies she's there all the time, volunteering to make the teachers' jobs even less demanding than they already, contractually are (if one can imagine that). In essence, all of those PTA biddies are "volunteer aides". So, what we have here is a paid volunteer, pure and simple.
Folks--when will the nonsense end?
Those biddies and their male counterparts are doing two things, by my observations. They are schmoozing the school employees so their kids (they think) will have an easier time at school AND they are re-living their childhoods. Either they didn't get the recognition they wanted when they were in school or adulthood hasn't satisfied their need. So they hang at the school and get gratified by being "teacher's pet". Either way it's their arrested development. People will do lots of things to gratify their emotional needs. They'll ignore corruption that's right in front of their eyes. They'll even tax themselves into poverty.
Hey--maybe this is just a trial run to install Mrs. Galloway into the Superintendent position! That do-nothing Hooie is keeping the seat warm (the board can't possibly offer her as the Super, given they rejected two seasoned superintendents...at least let's hope the board isn't that corrupt) so this is their way of bringing a "fresh perspective" to the district!
